This four-hour documentary explores how the United States emerged from the Civil War and slavery. It features interviews with historians, authors and other experts, and explores the transformative years following the Civil War through the rise of Jim Crow segregation. The film also looks at blacks in art, music, literature and culture and the surge of political activism that eventually led to the rise of civil rights organizations.
