A Durham native, Ervin attended Hillside High School and graduated from North Carolina Central University with a degree in Business Administration. Ervin was a Co-Captain of the Eagle football team in his senior year. He also completed his MBA with a concentration in Marketing from the Babcock Graduate School of Management, Wake Forest University. Ervin also went on to North Carolina State University, Poole College of Management to earn an MSM degree.
Ervin also held management positions at:
North Carolina Blue Cross Blue Shield as manager of the Champus Department, Durham, NC United Durham Incorporated in Economic Development, Durham, NC Brand Manager, Leggs Products, Winston Salem, NC Brand Manager, Texize Chemicals, Greenville, SC Franchisee of three KFC stores, in Southern NJ Franchisee of a PIP Printing unit in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough, NC Director of the Small Business Center, in Alamance County, NC
Ervin is also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
