Come to Main Library for a special presentation by author, wildlife biologist, perfumer and teacher Elise Vernon Pearlstine on her new book Scent: A Natural History of Fragrance. Hear about the importance of pollinators, the ways fragrance brings people together, humanity's fascination with aromatics, and the role environmental and geographic patterns play in the nuances of scent. After the talk there will be copies of the book for sale and signing from Regulator Books.

About the authorAfter a 15-year career as a natural perfumer during which she studied botanical aromatics, taught natural perfumery, and wrote about fragrance ingredients for her blog and others, Dr. Pearlstine began organizing her thoughts into a book. With a PhD in biology and nearly twenty years as a wildlife biologist, getting up close and personal with hawks, falcons, kingsnakes, turtles, wading birds, and a variety of other animal life, it was natural to explore the science behind the scent. As a second act, Elise trained as a natural perfumer and founded a company to make and sell perfumes and soap. Her book Scent: A Natural History of Fragrance was published in May 2022 by Yale University Press.
