The 'What Is Architecture?' children's book serves as a tool to increase awareness about architecture, while encouraging kids to think critically about the conditions in their cities and neighborhoods. ‘What is Architecture’ was written by BIPOC designer and educator Atianna Cordova, and serves as a tool to increase representation in the architecture field.
NC NOMA, Prism Design Lab, and Diversify Architecture are partnering to purchase the ‘What Is Architecture?’ children’s book for each public elementary school in the Wake, Durham and Chapel Hill/Carrboro school districts. As part of this campaign, the organizations will also host a What Is Architecture? event at Durham Main Library on April 27, 2024. The event will include a book reading by local architects, as well as hands on architecture, art, and building activities.
