Event Description:

A special Earth Day presentation by a local senior, Steve Laning 77, discusses the origins, concerns and latest developments related to climate change. The goal of this talk is not simply to provide a crisis update but also to deliver a hopeful, positive message related to ways seniors and others can take action to drive critical institutional change.

The talk will be geared towards seniors and ways they can take part in advocacy, but all ages are welcome to attend!

About the presenter:

Steve came to North Carolina in 2020 from Milwaukee, WI after living more than a decade in Switzerland and Sweden. Steve graduated from the Ohio State University with majors in Zoology and Ecology. Following graduation he took a “temporary” job in the Food Industry which became a 42 year career. Steve ended his career in Switzerland in the top management of a global chocolate and cocoa business. For 5 years Steve was chairman of the American Cocoa Research Institute in Washington, DC, a trade group working to sustain the cacao crop and improve the lives of cocoa farming families around the world. He was also a founding member of the World Cocoa Foundation in DC and the International Cocoa Initiative in Geneva, Switzerland.
