Join Durham County Library for a special panel discussion on the legacy of Octavia Butler and her seminal novel Kindred. Kindred, and its depictions of American chattel slavery, is arguably one of the most recognizable works of Black Speculative fiction. Panelists from Color of Fandom will lead a discussion of representations of chattel slavery, Jim Crow segregation and racial violence in speculative fiction and how these works impact the understanding of racial tensions in America. Afterwards, there will be space for discussion and Q&A.
