The African American Legacy in Gardening and Horticulture Symposium on March 30, 2024, at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham will explore the historical legacy of unsung, rarely known African American plantspeople, horticulturists, gardeners, landscape designers, and garden clubs. The symposium brings together nationally known garden historians suchas Abra Lee and Shaun Spencer Hester, botanists Derek Haynes and Justin Robinson, North Carolina flower farmers and florists, writers Zelda Lockhart, Leoneda Inge, and Noelle Morrisette, and environmental enthusiasts.
