Weeds and Wildflowers: Native Plants, Healthy Ecosystems, People, Planet
Join Mellow Marsh Farm for a discussion on the importance of incorporating native plants into our home garden environments. We’ll define terms such as native, non-native, invasive, nativar, and eco-type, discuss a few recommended species and cultivation techniques, as well as share resources on how you can get involved and bring native plants to your own garden community.
Mellow Marsh Farm is a native plant nursery with a deep basis in ecology and conservation. Founded in 1997, Mellow marsh farm currently operates on 40 acres in Silk Hope near Siler City, NC. All their plants are wild-type, southeastern native species: they do not grow cultivars or non-native plants. They propagate mostly from seed collected in the Carolinas and Virginia to ensure local provenance and strong genetic diversity, with a specific focus on plants related to wetland mitigation, stream restoration, stormwater ponds, rain gardens, and pollinator habitats.
Mellow Marsh Farm is a wholesale nursery and cannot accommodate onsite shopping or unscheduled visits. For more information on the nursery, their story, and available plants, please visit their website: Mellow Marsh Farm

Join the Durham All-Skills Gardening Group and Durham County Extension Master Gardener volunteers for a spring community plant swap! Bring your perennials, saplings, shrubs, bulbs, houseplant cuttings, and seeds to swap and share with other local gardeners! Have all your gardening questions answered by Durham County Extension Master Gardeners! Check out the Digging Durham Seed Library resources and seeds! Community partner Panther Creek Forest Farm will be providing native trees. Spring is for planting and sharing!
Please bring your own boxes or bags for transporting plants. A marker, painters' tape or tags, and small bags or envelopes are also helpful at plant swaps.
