Since the 1970s, Cynthia Hawkins has investigated the potentials of abstract painting. These creative routine processes and experimentations were documented as sketches, criticism and reflections in her journal. The artist's journal, later published by CARA as Cynthia Hawkins: Art Notes, Art, gives the reader insight into the blossoming 1970s and 80s African American gallery world of New York City--bolstered by such stalwarts as Cinque Gallery, Kenkeleba House and Just Above Midtown. In this Zoom presentation art historian and scholar Dr. Amalia Amaki will converse with Hawkins about the creative process, the art world, and what it means to be an artist and creative in the 21st century.

A painter, curator and scholar Cynthia Hawkins is represented by Stars Gallery, Paula Cooper Gallery, Kaufmann Repetto and Hollybush Gardens.
