There's a fire in the park! Surprise! It's a good thing! Have you ever wondered how an environmental prescribed burn works? Durham County Library is partnering with NC State Extension Forestry and Durham Parks and Recreation Outdoor Recreation to do a prescribed burn on the meadow at West Point on the Eno's Environmental Education Pavilion.
At this event, explore nature, prescribed fire, and North Carolina ecosystems through displays and hands-on activities from our community partners. Explore each community partner's table with information and activities, then the event will conclude with a prescribed burn demo during the last hour (weather and conditions permitting)!
A NEW DATE FORTHCOMING. This event takes places on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 from 3-6pm at West Point on the Eno at Environmental Education Pavilion (5253 N Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27712). This event may be postponed or cancelled due to weather.
The event schedule is currently:
- Live music via Indigenous Memories from 3-4pm

- Triangle Prescribed Burn Association
- NC Forest Service
- Museum of Life and Science

- A live prescribed burn demo on the prairie land led by NC State Cooperative Extension certified wildland firefighters from 5-6pm! (Weather and conditions permitting)
