As a part of the African American Legacy in Gardening and Horticulture Symposium Family Tree, a documentary film about African American land ownership and sustainable forestry will be shown at the Hayti Heritage Center. This film follows two North Carolina families taking on the challenge of building intergenerational wealth while raising healthy forests. Guided by forestry experts the Williams and Jeffries families become authorized to understand the economic potential of their forested properties, while simultaneously recognizing they are also environmental stewards of lands formerly owned by their ancestors. A  Q&A session with film characters Alton Perry and Tyrone Williams, and Savi Horne of Land Loss Prevention Project located in Durham will take place at the conclusion of the film.
