All budding writers and storytellers, ages 8 though 12 years old, are invited to enter the Katherine Applegate Color Our World Writing Contest this summer! Katherine Applegate, the Collaborative Summer Library Program's 2025 Reading Champion, says "Books change the world. And so can you!"
The writing prompt is, as follows: “Your writing can change and color our world! Write a short story between 1,000 – 1,500 words about a character that takes an action that changes someone else’s day for the better. The action can be as small or grand as you’d like — even small acts can make a big difference! Your story must have a catchy title, a protagonist that takes an action to make a change, and a beginning, middle, and end.”
If you're interested in this contest, join Ms. Natalie for a Writers' Workshop designed for youths, ages 8 though 12 years old! At this workshop, youths will be provided with writing resources to help them get started with brainstorming titles, creating characters, and developing plots. If you've already started writing your story and don't need any further resources, join us anyways! You can use the space to work on your writing independently, too.
Registration is required.
