The City of Durham and Durham County have launched a new program to provide free internet access to qualifying residents through MiFi hotspot distribution. Visit the website to complete the survey to see if you qualify!

Residents may pick up their devices during one of the following distribution windows in the Main Library MakerLab located on the first floor.
This project is a collaboration with the City and County of Durham. Applications will remain open until November 2025 or when funds are depleted. MiFi program recipients will begin receiving devices in September 2025.
Qualifying Documents Information
- One survey per household
- Must be at least 18 years of age to apply
MiFi qualifications include either income limitations or income-based government assistance. Applicants must be able to provide photo identification and proof of eligibility by emailing qualifying document(s) to digitalinclusion@durhamnc.gov or bringing a copy of qualifying document(s) at pick up.
The following forms of identification are accepted:
- Current Driver's License
- Current State Issued Identification Card
- Current Passport
- Military Identification
Net Income Accepted Documents Include
- Prior year’s state, federal, or tribal tax return (W2 forms or pay stubs NOT accepted)
- Social Security statement of benefits
- Veteran Administration statement of benefits
- Retirement/pension statement of benefits
- Unemployment Compensation statement of benefits
- Federal or tribal notice letter of participation in General Assistance
Income-Based Government Assistance Accepted Documents Include
- Food support (SNAP)
- Employment services
- Extended Foster Care
- Head Start
- Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Medicaid or Medical Assistance
- Free or Reduced Lunch Program
- Section 8, Federal Public Housing
- Social Security Disability
- Supplemental Security Income
- Statement of benefits from Social Security, General Assistance, Veteran Administration
- Retirement/Pension or Unemployment Benefits
