During this hour long event, we will hear about the life, career, and work of artist, Elizabeth Stone, in particular, her I Remember project. Stone is a visual artist from Montana and will be an artist in residence at Cassilhaus in Chapel Hill in October 2021. To see more of Stone's work, visit her website at www.elizabethstone.com
The I Remember project consists of a large scale multidimensional tapestry of sewn film negatives and slides donated by residents of Durham, Hillsborough, and the greater Chapel Hill area. The piece will be sewn by Stone and participating community members at local sewing bees during the month of October.
In addition, each negative and slide will be scanned, archived, and included in a video celebrating and memorializing the many personal and family histories which serves as a collaborative record of the community's identity.
Throughout the month, you can donate your own slides at the Main Library downtown. Donation boxes are available on each floor, including release forms and envelopes. Reach out to Natalie Killion with any questions at nkillion@dconc.gov
