Relax and read with a dog! This program brings dogs and reluctant readers together for 20 minutes of companionship. Handlers and their dogs provide quiet encouragement to children so that they might develop a love of reading and  improve communication skills. Canines for Literacy is an affiliate program of Reading Education Assistance Dogs® (R.E.A.D.®).

Registration is required - please sign up at the Children's Desk at Southwest or give us a call at (919) 560-8592. Please note that you may book one session per day, and sessions are 20 minutes long. Available time slots are as follows: 2:30 PM, 2:50 PM, 3:10 PM, 3:30 PM, 3:50 PM and 4:10 PM

We've moved inside! Please meet us in the Children's Programming room.

Bow Wow for now!
